Hackers Target WHO as Coronavirus Cyber Attack Increase

Hackers tried to breach the World Health Organization (WHO), according to Reuters. The identity of the hacking group is not known and there has been a rapid increase in the number of hacking attempts amidst coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The hack was discovered by Alexander Urbelis, a cybersecurity expert who looks for suspicious internet activity. The hacking activity was discovered on March 13, when hackers introduced a fake and malicious site that pretended to be the WHO’s email system. Flavio Aggio, WHO, CIO, said the identity of the hackers was unclear and the effort was unsuccessful.
