Hackers tried to breach the World Health Organization (WHO), according to Reuters. The identity of the hacking group is not known and there has been a rapid increase in the number of hacking attempts amidst coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The hack was discovered by Alexander Urbelis, a cybersecurity expert who looks for suspicious internet activity. The hacking activity was discovered on March 13, when hackers introduced a fake and malicious site that pretended to be the WHO’s email system. Flavio Aggio, WHO, CIO, said the identity of the hackers was unclear and the effort was unsuccessful.
