WhatsApp Will Password Protect Chat Backups on Cloud

WABetaInfo has recently announced that WhatsApp is currently working on its new password protection feature – which will encrypt users’ chat backups in the Cloud. The Facebook-owned messaging platform noted that this would be accessible only to the users.

Although WhatsApp chats are end-to-end encrypted, however, this protection doesn’t apply to online backups stored on Apple iCloud and Google Drive as of now.

According to WABetaInfo, “The chat database and media will be safe from unauthorized access when using a password. The password is private, and it’s not sent to WhatsApp. It will be available in a future build for iOS and Android.”
