The Chinese messaging app WeChat has seen a rapid surge in downloads in the US. This is after the Trump administration confirmed it would move ahead with their plan for banning the app.
Recently, the US Department of Commerce issued a statement asking Apple and Google app store to take out WeChat for downloads. This was issued on national security grounds.
According to the statistics from Sensor Tower, WeChat has been installed around 54,000 times in between Friday and Saturday. This is 28X more than the 1,900 downloads – seen in the same period a week ago.
