Vodafone and Amazon Collaborate to Launch ‘Edge Computing’ in the UK

Vodafone (VOD.L) recently announced collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) (AMZN.O) to offer “edge computing” services to its UK business customers.

Edge computing employs augmented reality and machine learning to evaluate large amounts of data on the manufacturing floor, oil rig, or office before sending it to cloud servers. Fast data transmissions, such as those provided by 5G, are required for it to function.

Vodafone announced the launch after conducting trials with businesses in a variety of fields, including sports technology, autonomous transportation, biometric security, remote virtual reality, and factory automation.
