The healthcare division of Alphabet Inc., Verily Life Sciences, has announced in an internal memo that it will lay off more than 200 employees, making it the first organization under the expansive parent company of Google LLC to do so.
Wall Street Journal reports that approximately 15% of Verily’s 1,600-person workforce will be affected by the job cuts. The company will also stop working on early-stage projects, including the Verily Value Suite medical software project, according to Verily Chief Executive Stephen Gillett in the email to employees.
Apart from Google, verily is one of Alphabet’s largest companies and a member of the group of companies referred to as “Other Bets.”
