US Regulator Seeking Comments on Security Risks from Huawei_ Others

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) of the US has recently announced that it is in search of comments on the potential national security risks for the electric system from some service providers and equipment makers, including Huawei and ZTE Corp.

The identified entities offer communication systems and services – which are critical for the bulk electric system reliability. Since FERC regulates the US’s power grid, it needs to take action to address the associated risks.

The Trump administration has already been pushing governments globally to discontinue using Chinese 5G telecommunications equipment. There have been arguments that these firms convey data to China for spying.
