The US BIS (Bureau of Industry and Security) within the Department of Commerce announced that it would further limit Huawei from accessing US chips. Huawei, along with its 114 affiliates, were placed on an Entity List by the department in May 2019. Now, the department is adding 38 more Huawei affiliates in 21 countries to the existing list. The affiliate companies listed are all branches of Huawei operating outside of China, including Huawei Cloud centers, as well as some of its R&D centers throughout Europe.
The previous round of restrictions aimed at limiting overseas semiconductor ability to sell chips to Huawei, will be fully implemented on September 14, 2020.
