US Commerce Department Plans Meeting on Chip Shortage

Gina Raimondo, the US Commerce Secretary plans to hold a meeting with senior US auto industry leaders as well as others that have cut production due to the semiconductor shortage. The discussion will include General Motors Co, Ford Motor, and Stellantis NV, as per different sources.

Gina Raimondo has recently mentioned in a statement that “we need to get back into the business of making more chips in America. And the supply chain issues are very real.”

The Commerce Department refused to comment at the moment. In this context, the officials are pressing Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and other Taiwanese companies to prioritize the requirements of the US automakers to simplify chip shortages in the future.
