U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States and China are working on selecting a new location to sign a “Phase One” trade deal. Trump revealed the same via Twitter after the initial gathering in Chile was canceled due to protests. Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Trump will sign the deal.
Trump did not offer details about when the new meeting might take place, but the White House stated that the deal is expected to be finalized by the same time frame. Trump said in his tweet that the “phase one” trade deal represents the majority of a long-term agreement. Meanwhile, China’s commerce ministry said bilateral talks will continue to proceed as previously planned and the lead trade negotiators from both countries will speak by telephone on Friday.
