The US Department of Justice has charged China’s Huawei and four of its subsidiaries with conspiracy to steal trade secrets. The racketeering and theft charges are the latest allegations in the US’ legal battle against the Chinese telecommunications company. As per the latest claims, Huawei had installed surveillance equipment in Iran to monitor, identify, and detain protesters during the 2009 anti-government demonstrations in Tehran.
Huawei said the US is targeting it because its expansion is a threat to American business interests. The company said the new charges are a “contrived repackaging” of claims that have already been litigated in civil court.
