UK Information

Barclays Plc has recently been probed by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the
privacy watchdog of the UK. According to ICO, there are accusations that The British bank
has been spying on its staff. In early 2020, Barclays mentioned about shifting of a system it was piloting – in order to track how employees spent time at work.

The ICO announced a formal probe was ongoing; however, it could not confirm when this
investigation would conclude. The agency said that if companies want to monitor their
workforce, they should be transparent about its purpose, bringing benefits for all. As
mentioned by the ICO, “People expect that they can keep their personal lives private and
that they are also entitled to a degree of privacy in the workplace.”
