TSMC Plans to Double Down on US Chip Factories

By ET Bureau - May 14, 2021 1 Mins Read

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has recently announced its plans to pump billions of dollars more into cutting-edge chip factories in the US state of Arizona.

This is much higher than its previous investment strategy; however, it is cool on prospects towards an advanced European plant. TSMC’s investment plans are being actively noted in the course of the global chip shortage to subsidize semiconductor production.

The company officials are yet to decide if the next plant should be of a more advanced facility to make chips with 3-nanometer technology compared to 5-nanometer ones – which could cost between $23 billion to $25 billion.
