The Trump Administration is set to propose a big jump in U.S. government spending on AI and quantum information sciences R&D in its 2021 budget proposal, reports Reuters. The White House wants Congress to double the spend on AI R&D funding to nearly $2 billion, up from $973 million by 2022. They have also recommended double spending on quantum information sciences to $860 million within two years.
The administration is focusing on pushing quantum information research even further as part of its effort to support future industries, as Trump aims to keep pace with China’s efforts. The proposal will include a 70% increase for the National Science Foundation (NSF) for AI-related grants, and interdisciplinary research institutes added the report.
