Tech Giants Join Forces to Ban Passwords

Google LLC and Microsoft Corp. have all announced intentions to make new passwordless login features available across their platforms. Over the following year, the new functionalities are planned to be made available. 

Passwords are vulnerable to hacking and are difficult to manage for users. Apple, Google, and Microsoft have been leading an industrywide campaign to move away from passwords as the primary mechanism of login into applications to address these challenges. The project unveiled today by the corporations is a continuation of that work. 

The three digital behemoths want to roll out new login features that will allow users to sign into a website or app without having to input a password. Users will be able to sign into a service merely by unlocking their devices, according to the companies.
