Alphabet Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai backed the EU’s proposal for a temporary ban on facial-recognition technology, reports Reuters. Pichai said that facial recognition technology could be used for criminal purposes. He said governments and regulations must tackle it faster and create a solution framework for the same. Pichai stated that the decision is up to governments to chart the course for the use of facial recognition technology.
Last week, the European Commission revealed it is considering a ban on the use of facial recognition in public areas for up to five years. The EU suggested that new rules will be introduced to bolster existing regulations surrounding privacy and data rights.
