Redis supports vector database search in its first unified platform update

Redis Inc., a database management startup, has added a ton of new features to its platform, such as native triggers, vector search capabilities, and a new change data capture function.

The company said that the release of Redis 7.2 adds a new scalable search feature that supports vector similarity search to the startup’s cloud- and software-based data stores.

The new function is intended for vector databases, which are used to organize the storage of unstructured data. They transform user behaviors, documents, videos, and images into vectors, which are intricate strings of numbers.

The process of locating vectors that are similar to a query vector is known as vector similarity search, according to Redis, and it is a crucial component of any vector database.
