At its Automotive Investor Day conference, Qualcomm Technologies Inc. announced significant new partnerships with Mercedes-Benz AG and Red Hat Inc. to advance its plans to power the next generation of autonomous vehicles that will be driving on the roads.
In an effort to expand beyond mobile devices, the chip company has been pushing hard into the automotive industry recently, and it sees autonomous vehicles as a key target.
According to Qualcomm, the combination of Red Hat’s operating system and its Digital Chassis platforms will address more stringent cybersecurity standards, as well as certifications for privacy and software updates related to safety applications.
