Progress Software Inc. has announced an agreement to acquire MarkLogic Inc., the creator of an enterprise data integration-focused NoSQL database management system.

The purchase price was later reported in the press to have been USD 355 million, although it wasn’t initially disclosed. In order to extract value from complex data, Progress claimed that the agreement would provide it with a unified, enterprise-grade semantic data platform.

MarkLogic is a multimodal database that can serve as a search engine, a native DBMS for use with an extensible markup language, and a document store.
