According to a report by Reuters, Nvidia Corp, a designer of computer chips leveraged in developing artificial intelligence, released new research that explains how AI can be leveraged to improve chip design. The chip designing process includes decisions to place tens of billions of tiny on-off switches known as transistors on a piece of silicon to develop the working chips. The precise placement of these transistors greatly impacts the chip’s cost, speed, and power consumption.
Chip design engineers leverage complex design software from an organization like Synopsys Inc. and Cadence Design Systems Inc. to optimize the placement of those transistors. Nvidia released a paper that could use artificial intelligence techniques to explore better ways to place big groups of transistors.
