NTT Ltd. has announced at VMware Explore Event its new edge-as-a-service (EaaS). According to Shahid Ahmed, executive vice president for new ventures and innovation at NTT, it is the first edge and private 5G product that is completely managed, available internationally.
The service, which is supported by VMware’s Edge Compute Stack, enables businesses to track, examine, and act on data wherever it is generated or gathered. VMware is also implementing NTT’s Private 5G technology. The item will be marketed jointly by the businesses. The infrastructure of all three key hyperscalers has offerings in place to entice edge compute data payloads.
This includes Microsoft’s Azure Platform and the purchases of Metaswitch and Affirmed networks, as well as AWS’ Private 5g and Google Cloud’s substantial relationships with Betacom, Boingo, and Kajeet.
