According to reports, Microsoft Corp. has eliminated positions at the divisions in charge of creating the Xbox game console, the metaverse, and the Surface line of mobile devices. Bloomberg reported the development using insider information.
Microsoft is reducing its headcount in an effort to reduce operating costs, just like other significant tech companies. In a restructuring initiative announced last month, the company will let go of 10,000 employees, or about 5% of its workforce. The reported layoffs today were carried out as part of the initiative.
According to The Information, Microsoft’s recently formed Industrial Metaverse Core group was disbanded as a result of the layoffs. In connection with the relocation, approximately 100 employees are leaving the company.
