MediaTek Rolls Out 5G Chip to Gain US Market Share

MediaTek Inc, the Taiwanese chip designer, has recently announced the launch of its new 5G chip – aimed at gaining market share in the US. The new chip called the M80 will support millimeter-wave technology that is being used by US carriers companies.

Currently, Qualcomm Inc. is the dominant supplier of chips to make the most out of the millimeter-wave technology. MediaTek is planning to help the smartphone chip market with innovative solutions – in the competition with Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

It also plans to increase chip supplies to prominent phone makers, including Xiaomi Corp and LG Electronics Inc.
