Limelight Adds Serverless to Its Existing Edge Computing Offerings

Major CDN providers are trying out serverless computing, an emerging use case for effective edge computing. They are leveraging the distributed networks of data centers built over the years to compete with the services offered by hyper-scale cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Functions, AWS Lambda, and Azure Functions.

Limelight Networks, one of the most well-known content delivery networks, launched EdgeFunctions earlier this month. The serverless compute service allows customers to write and deploy code to enhance user experiences, protect content privacy, prevent content piracy, and other use cases.

Over the last two decades, the Scottsdale, Arizona-based CDN company built a massive global network to allow its content provider customers stream videos to deliver other digital content, such as games, websites, and file downloads.
