
The US Department of Defense surprised hardly anyone when it canceled its $10 billion JEDI cloud computing contract earlier this week, except perhaps Microsoft Corp., which looked to have grabbed the business from front-runner Amazon Web Services Inc. nearly two years ago.
According to experts, the DOD was working against the grain of other government agencies, which use multiple clouds and have a decade-long horizon in a market characterized by rapid change, by relying on a single cloud provider and having a decade-long horizon in a market characterized by rapid change.
