With the introduction of its newest product family, the Intel Max, Intel Corp. hopes to compete against rivals Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Nvidia Corp. in the high-performance computing and artificial intelligence markets.
Both central processing units and graphics processing units are available in the Intel Max series. The upcoming Aurora supercomputer from the Argonne National Laboratory will be powered by both the Intel Data Center GPU Max Series and the Intel Xeon CPU Max Series, code-named Sapphire Rapids HBM. As the first system to pair the Max Series CPUs and GPUs together, Aurora will be the first supercomputer in the world to surpass two exaflops of peak double-precision compute performance.
More than 10,000 server blades totaling six Max Series GPUs and two Xeon Max CPUs will be housed there.
