
Intel Corp plans to tap Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) to make a second-generation discrete graphics chip for personal computers in the hopes that it will help combat the rise of Nvidia Corp.
The chip, known as DG2, will be made on a new chip making process at TSMC, which has not been formally named as of now but is an enhanced version of its 7-nanometer process.
Intel has lost its manufacturing edge in recent years and is now deciding whether to outsource some of its flagship central processor unit chips, or CPUs, slated for release in 2023.
