Intel, Apple file antitrust case against SoftBank-owned firm over its patent practices

Apple Inc and Intel Corp filed an antitrust lawsuit against Fortress Investment Group, complained regarding the SoftBank Group Corp unit stockpiling patents to hold up tech firms with the lawsuits demanding almost $5.1 billion.

Intel filed a case against Fortress in October, but withdrew it and recorded a new version in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District, with Apple joining as a plaintiff.

Apple and Intel allege that Fortress and firms it either owned or whose patent portfolios to be effectively controlled – which do not make any technology products – stockpiled patents to sue technology companies and did to violate the U.S. antitrust laws.
