Indonesia Includes Several Tech Companies in the List of VAT Payers

Indonesia has recently announced that it added more technology companies to the list of businesses liable to pay 10% value-added tax (VAT) on sales. This includes Microsoft Corporation, Alibaba Cloud (Singapore), GitHub Inc, UCWeb Singapore, and more.

The tax authority of the country has named 36 organizations, including the new additions that must pay VAT from July 7. Earlier it listed Alphabet Inc’s Google (APAC), Netflix Inc., etc. among different tech firms.

With this announcement, companies will start charging VAT to their advertisers and customers from November 1, said Indonesia’s Directorate General of Taxes. However, none of the companies has responded to the move yet.
