Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company has announced that it will acquire Athonet, a private cellular network provider, for an undisclosed sum.
After the acquisition, HPE claims it becomes the first well-known network provider to have a private wireless portfolio of its own. It currently distributes its products through a collaboration with Celona Inc. Athonet additionally provides a carrier-graded, 4G evolved packet core and native voice and video services for LTE and 5G endpoints through its IMS business. These services are offered in addition to P5G.
According to a press release from HPE, the company intends to offer Athonet P5G as a component of its GreenLake “edge to cloud” platform. Customers will be able to purchase this platform’s wired network, Wi-Fi, and private cellular services on a monthly subscription basis with no upfront costs.
