How do CIOs of the Digital Age plan their successor?

The role of a Tech leader is critical- and there is always a need for well-groomed successors. More so, in these times of a tough talent squeeze.

Moving beyond just keeping enterprise technology afloat, the CIO is also tasked with ensuring there is enough tech talent in the event of his or her role falling open. There are always a few people in the second line of command who are abounding in ability and potential. However, the need to groom digital leaders to succeed in the CIO could be more of a challenge.

In a survey by Development Dimensions International, The Conference Board, and EY, more than half of the HR professionals expressed doubt over the current status of their leadership talent capability across the organization. At a time when tech talent turnover is so prevalent, this could be signaling alarm bells.
