Google’s Cloud Taps AMD for New Cloud Computing Services as Chip Wars Warm-Up

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google Cloud recently announced that Google will offer cloud computing services based on AMD’s newest data center chip, a move that is expected to ratchet up AMD’s competition with Intel Corp.

Cloud computing companies like Google, Amazon.com Inc., and Microsoft Corp. are the purchasers of data center CPUs. They create services on top of the chips to allow millions of clients to rent computer power.

Google just announced that it will begin delivering services using AMD’s “Milan” server CPU, which debuted in March.
