Google Maps has partnered with DeepMind, an Alphabet AI research lab to further enhance the accuracy of its traffic prediction capabilities. With the help of DeepMind, Google will be able to cut the percentage of inaccurate ETAs even further by using a machine learning architecture known as Graph Neural Networks.
Google and DeepMind have improved real-time ETAs by up to 50% in Sydney, Tokyo, Berlin, Jakarta, Sao Paulo, and Washington DC. To predict what traffic will look like in the near future, Google Maps analyzes historical traffic patterns for roads over time. It has also updated its machine learning model to consider the changes in global traffic patterns that have changed since the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic
