Google co-founders step aside for Pichai

Google co-founders are stepping away from the Internet behemoth they founded 21 years ago, ending the run that saw them build one of the world’s most influential and valuable companies. Sundar Pichai, managing the Google search business since 2015, will take the reins as CEO of parent Alphabet Inc.

Brin, Page, and Pichai have emphasized developing artificial intelligence software to make web searching faster and more personalized. But, their vision faces unprecedented scrutiny, with governments demanding better safeguards this could mean an end to what many views as anticompetitive conduct extracting more taxes from the world’s largest online advertising company.

Streamlining Alphabet’s unorthodox management structure will help the company better respond to the challenges, focusing on growing profits, investors said.
