German Telecoms, 1&1 Telecom Gmbh Fined with $10 Million GDPR

The German web hosting firm, 1&1 Telecom Gmbh has been slapped with a $10 Million GDPR fine by Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. It was imposed under Article 32 of GDPR, and the penalty is “in the lower range of possible fines.”

1&1 cooperated with the regulator’s investigation and in the middle of introducing a new authentication procedure to improve technology and data protection.

In this concern, Ulrich Kelber, Federal Commissioner said: “Data protection is the protection of fundamental rights. The fines imposed are a clear sign that we will enforce this protection of fundamental rights. The European GDPR allows us to decisively punish the insufficient safeguarding of personal data. We apply these powers while taking into account the required proportionality.”
