
A new report from law firm DLA Piper has revealed that 160,000 data breaches have been reported following the implementation of Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For the period from May 25, 2018, to January 27, 2019, there were on average 247 breach notifications per day. According to the report, data protection regulators have imposed $126 million (EUR114 million) in fines under the GDPR regime for a wide range of GDPR infringements.

Most of the data breaches were reported from the UK, Germany, or the Netherlands. The largest fine was the 50 million euro fine on Google in France for lack of transparency.
