European cloud computing platform Gaia-X in on the verge of taking shape in the coming
weeks. The platform is aimed at reducing Europe’s dependence on US-based technology giants Amazon, Microsoft and Google. The Gaia-X platform will establish common standards for storing and processing data on servers and comply with the European Union’s laws on data privacy. A total of 22 French and German enterprises will set up a non-profit foundation to run Gaia-X and the launch is slated for early 2021. The platform would allow users to easily switch providers.
