Facial Recognition Firm Clearview AI Sued by ACLU over Privacy and Safety Violations

By ET Bureau - June 01, 2020 1 Mins Read

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has sued facial recognition firm Clearview AI alleging privacy and safety violations. The startup violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), to create its facial recognition system, said the Clearview AI court filing. In its defense, the startup claims that its actions are somehow protected by the First Amendment. A New York Times story earlier in January had revealed that Clearview AI was selling its facial recognition technology as a service to law enforcement agencies globally.
