EU Seeks More Transparency on Combating Fake News with Google

Google has to be more transparent and responsible in advertising while working to combat the spread of “fake news” – noted Vera Jourova, VP of the European Commission. This has been announced after a video conference with Sundar Pichai.

The spread of misinformation on the internet has prompted several concerns globally. Many governments and regulators are increasingly trying to work on the problem – especially the news related to elections, COVID-19, and political advertising.

EU had previously criticized the tech giants for making money by spreading fake news. In its essence, it has released the European Democracy Action Plan to fight against false information and boost media freedom.
