Elon Musk and other artificial intelligence industry veterans suggest a six-month pause in A.I. development systems more robust than OpenAI’s recently launched GPT-4 in an open letter considering potential risks to society. Microsoft-backed OpenAI deployed the fourth version of its GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) A.I. program, which has surprised users by immersing them in human-like conversation, writing songs, and summarizing lengthy documents. According to a report by Reuters, more than 1,000 people signed the letter, including Musk.
