BuzzFeed Inc.’s stock just increased by as much as 150% after the digital media company announced today that it will begin producing significantly more content with ChatGPT, a tool developed by OpenAI LLC.
Since it was introduced in 2022, ChatGPT has swept the globe. AI will undoubtedly make a difference, according to Jonah Peretti, chief executive of BuzzFeed, as stated in a memo he sent to staff this week. Peretti seems to imply in the memo—which was first made public by The Wall Street Journal and later caused BuzzFeed’s stock to rise by record amounts—that staff can be confident that the newsroom won’t suddenly become very quiet because ChatGPT contributes to the creation of the company’s content.
According to Peretti, OpenAI will initially focus on “improving the quiz experience, informing brainstorming, and personalizing content for the audience.”
