Buoyant Inc., the designer of the Linkerd service mesh, is hoping to make some money with the public beta launch of its Buoyant Cloud service.
The open-source Linkerd service mesh platform, built-in 2016 and hosted by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, is being commercialized by Buoyant. The popular Kubernetes container orchestration software project is also housed by the same firm.
Service meshes are software layers that assist organizations in connecting, managing, and securing large deployments of microservices, which are the building blocks of containerized applications. Containers are popular among developers because they allow them to create software that can operate without modification on any computer or infrastructure platform.
