
According to a recent announcement, computer chipmaker Broadcom Inc. is in talks to buy virtualization software giant VMware Inc.
The prospective deal’s terms are not disclosed yet. VMware has a market valuation of around 40 billion USD, while Broadcom has a market capitalization of around 222 billion USD. Broadcom is said to have been attempting to diversify its business beyond semiconductors for some time.
The company already has a footing in the corporate software market including the acquisition of CA Technologies Inc. in 2018 and Symantec Corp.’s security unit a year later.
