Brazil Telecom Regulator Agrees to Not Banning Huawei

Anatel, the telecoms regulator of Brazil, has approved the rules for a spectrum auction for 5G networks in 2021 – without any curbs on Huawei Technologies (as a Chinese equipment supplier).

Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil had earlier criticized the Chinese telecom company. As a result, things were under pressure from the US administration as well to ban Huawei from the country’s 5G technology market because of several security concerns.

The telecom operators from Brazil insisted on a free market, indicating that excluding Huawei would cost them billions of dollars. The replacement of the company’s equipment solely supplies 50% of the current 3G and 4G networks in the country.
