Brazil Telecom Regulator Agrees to No Huawei Ban

Anatel, the telecoms regulator of Brazil, has recently approved rules for a spectrum auction for 5G networks in 2021 – without any curbs on Huawei Technologies, as a Chinese equipment supplier.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro had earlier criticized the Chinese telecom company. As a result, things were under pressure from the Trump administration to ban Huawei from the country’s 5G technology market due to several security concerns.

The telecom operators from Brazil insisted on a free market, pointing that excluding Huawei would cost them billions of dollars – to replace the company’s equipment which supplies 50% of the current 3G and 4G networks.
