Appwrite, an open-source backend-as-a-service (BaaS) firm, has announced the introduction of a dedicated fund for open-source project maintainers, following its recent 27 million USD funding round.
The money will be offered to open-source maintainers behind projects that “laid the very basis for today’s digital infrastructure.” It will begin with a 50,000 USD grant in its first year. According to Appwrite, the company will form a committee made up of members of its internal team as well as members of the Appwrite open-source community, who will decide which projects are the best candidates for funding.
The organization will also include the popularity of a project, its technological influence, community expansion, and its current financial position as a criteria.
