Amazon has added insurance and even gold onto its menu of financial services in India, to attract even more subscribers to its Prime loyalty program and expand its customer base in a battleground growth market.

This push ramps up the competition as the FinTech rivals and their deep-pocketed foreign backers struggle for profitability in the predominantly cash-based economy where around 190 million adults do not have dedicated bank accounts.
