The retailer Amazon is closing its wholesale distribution operation in India, the latest in a string of retreats in the crucial international market where it has invested over USD 7 billion over the past ten years.
The American e-commerce behemoth announced that it was ending Amazon Distribution, a wholesale website that was accessible in quaint corner stores in Bengaluru, Mysore, and Hubli. Amazon did not provide a reason for closing the wholesale distribution service, but the decision comes after the company closed two other businesses in the nation as part of a global business restructuring.

Nevertheless, the string of announcements has led many to theorize that Amazon, which has invested more than USD 6.5 billion in its local business there, is gradually reducing its operations in the South Asian market.
