Wickr, a provider of secure communications, has announced that its free encrypted messaging app, Wickr Me, will be discontinued next year.
From its inception in 2011 until its acquisition by Amazon Web Services in 2021, Wickr was one of the first widely used end-to-end encrypted messaging apps. Wickr Me will permanently close on December 31, 2023, according to a post published by Amazon on Friday. According to Amazon, the app will stop taking new user registrations on December 31, 2022, and will then be completely discontinued the following year.
