European Union regulators filed antitrust charges against Amazon, saying the online retail giant broke competition laws by using its access to data from companies that sell products on its platform to gain an unfair advantage over them.
As part of the inquiry – EU regulators procured a massive data set from Amazon – covering over 80M transactions and around 100M product listings on its European marketplaces – to analyze how its business uses merchant data.
Amazon may face a fine of up to 10 percent of its annual worldwide revenue. Based on its 2019 earnings, it could amount to $28 billion.
