Amazon EC2 M1 Mac instances now generally available

AWS Nitro System, its computing virtualization platform, and dedicated Mac mini computers known as Amazon EC2 M1 Mac instances are now generally available, according to Amazon Web Services Inc.

The new instances enable developers to access devices made around the Apple-designed M1 System on Chip and let the Mac mini act and appear like any other Amazon EC2 instance. At AWS re:Invent in December, EC2 Mac instances were announced, with the EC2 M1 Mac instances going live in preview. Developers can now connect their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud to Nitro over Thunderbolt to boot from AWS Elastic Block Store volumes.

They can also use AWS Machine Images and EBS snapshots, and integrate into security groups and other AWS services like Amazon CloudWatch and AWS Systems Manager.
